However, land surveying projects are subject to a number of variables, any one of which, or combination of, can affect the scope of services provided. Unlike a construction estimate, for example, the various components of a land surveying project can't be plugged into a formula to obtain a consistent result. Unforeseen elements include, but are not limited to, missing boundary markers, following incorrect, or erroneous surveys, unresolved discrepancies between adjacent surveys, extra calculations to ensure accuracy, monument rehabilitation or restoration as required by statute, increased project requirements by an involved third party; i.e. engineer, architect, builder, or other design professional, and resultant changes to working plans or drawings; severe, inclement weather, access difficulties and/or rugged terrain.
